Cask Type: Oloroso sherry.

Color: 1.0, Deep Copper.

Nose: This is fruity and smoky. Lemon drop candies are what come to mind for the fruitier notes. You get a light smokiness with evident coastal influence giving you a nice bit of sea air.

Palate: Much peatier on the palate the on the nose. The bottle advertises heavy peat and this certainly delivers that. You get a lot of smoke and lovely grill char. There’s the slightest touch of fruit, peach as far as I can tell. A drop of water intensifies the peach in this.

Finish: Long. Grill char and roasted barley.

Conclusion: The day Master of Malt announced they’re shipping to the United States again was a really fun day. /u/dustbunna and I had our eyes land squarely on this undisclosed highland whisky. There are rumors that this is Talisker or Ledaig and with the coastal influence on this whisky is very much apparently combined with the peat levels and age, there really are only a handful of potential options. It certainly isn’t Highland Park. I’m personally leaning toward this being a Ledaig since it is rather similar to a Ledaig 19 year old I’ve had before. In any case, this whisky seems to be quite the bargain for what it is and I’m glad to have it on my shelf.
