Scotch Whisky Review #551: Bruichladdich 7 Year Laddie Origins Fèis Ìle 2021

Distillery: Bruichladdich
Region: Islay.
Age: 7 year. Bottled June 5th, 2021.
ABV: 56.3%.
Price: Part of an advent calendar curated by /u/federalagents, /u/dangerousdoorknob, and myself.
Color: 1.2, Chestnut / Oloroso Sherry.
Nose: This has a bit of a milky nose that reminds me a lot of a milky fruit tea. The fruit tea aspect is rather tropical with hibiscus and dragon fruit. Thinking about it a little more, it reminds me a lot of the “dragon drink” at Starbucks which is a coconut milk and mango dragonfruit juice combination. A bit of ginger wraps things up.
Palate: It starts with a lactic kick. It is a bit hot and needs some water. There was a moment here that reminded me a lot of Special K cereal. Adding water calms things down. You get breakfast cereal, Frosted Flakes comes to mind most. There is nothing in the way of fruits like the nose brought in spades. It has a very oily mouthfeel as well.
Finish: Medium in length. Fruits are back on the menu with a plethora of orchard fruits. Nutty as well with a ground nut butter note.
Conclusion: This might easily be the most “lactic Laddie” I’ve had since the rather infamous Valinch and Mallet one. The nose is full of milky and tropical fruity notes that makes for a really fun combination. The finish gives you a lovely fruit and nut butter combination. The breakfast cereal on the palate is nice but it is the weakest link here. Overall, this was tasty and fun enough to have tried.
Rating: 81.
