Nose: This is definitely on the lighter side of things with a grassy and fruity profile. You get some aromatics in the form of lemongrass, sweet mint, honeysuckle, orange blossoms, and neroli. The fruit comes in the form of some starfruit and underripe mango. There’s something that smells a lot like the “fresh linen” scent from air fresheners along with some jasmine tea.
Palate: Things are on the sweeter side of things here, though it does have a bit of spice/prickle as well. Honeyed floral tea is the main driving note. There’s also some vanilla extract. The main fruity note is nectarine though there is some citrus as well. Overall, the mouthfeel is a touch on the oily side with something that reminds me a lot of almond oil.
Finish: Very short, it is very dry and everything vanishes in a flash. You do get a nice hit of sweet vanilla and marzipan before it goes for good though.
Conclusion: I came across this whisky while researching potential whiskies for the annual Advent Calendar a few friends and I put together. The original price is over 350 euros, which I thought was a little much. When it popped up on an auction site, I was rather pleased to grab it for far less than that. This is overall quite the surprise for me. The nose is so light and fruity with layers and layers of amazingly fresh scents. The palate doesn’t come across like it has any grain in it, though it almost certainly does, and instead delivers some great floral and fruity notes. The finish, though short, is very fitting for this whisky. Overall, I’m super impressed by this blend of old whiskies and very glad to have this on my shelf.
Rating: 90.
