Nose: This punches a lot harder than 47.2% suggests it would with a bit of prickle. It is rather fruity and tropical with notes of pineapple, guava, dragonfruit, and lemons. Vanilla wafers, the ones that have the cream in between two thin and crispy wafers, come to mind as well.

Palate: With the nose being a little prickly, I was worried it might be on the palate as well. Thankfully it isn’t, it’s rather quite pleasant. Similar to the nose, it is bright and full of tropical fruits. Pineapple is the main driving note with some dragonfruit, passionfruit, and goldenberries. It has a very “yellow fruit” vibe for me for sure.

Finish: Medium to short in length. There isn’t a ton going on beyond some of crispy sugar wafers.

Conclusion: For my 700th whisky review, I’ve picked one that was distilled on a very meaningful date combination for me. This Bunnahabhain is unlike any other Bunnahabhain I’ve had, so much so that I’m pretty sure I would have guessed Arran if you gave this to me blind. It’s a tropical fruit bomb that’s quite lovely and I kept associating it mentally with the color yellow. Not exactly sure what’s gone on with this cask to make it so different than most Bunnahabhain but I’m all for it and would love to have more!

Rating: 85.
