Nose: This is super fruity and is quite tangy with a bit of tartness. Starfruit is the major fruit note for me with a tiny bit of calamansi. The starfruit note is like a super concentrated version and is far, far more fragrant than the fruit usually is. You get a little bit of apple as well as barley sugars.

Palate: There is a little bit of a prickle but its a pleasant prickle like having a prickly pear flavored bubbly drink. Asian pear is the dominant note, though it seems to be more like one that isn’t from Korea or Japan, the kind that is usually a bit less flavorful. A drop of water makes the prickle go away. The same flavors remain with a bit of apple coming in as well.

Finish: Medium in length. Poached pear, barley crackers, a bit of mineral water, and a smidge of chocolate.

Conclusion: Ever since having my first taste of unpeated Ledaig (most likely distillate from a cleaning run when the distillery switched from peated to unpeated spirit) a couple of years ago with another Thompson Brothers bottling, I’ve wanted to try more of it. When this bottling came up, I was super stoked especially since its had a little bit longer in the cask than the other one. Overall, while I do wish this had a little more complexity, this is very pleasant and delicious with those concentrated fruit notes from start to finish.

Rating: 87.
